The Chevening scholarship programme has announced the acceptance of applications from Ukrainian citizens for the 2017-2018 academic year
"The United Kingdom is home to many of the world's best universities, and Chevening provides the opportunity to develop academically, professionally, and personally while studying in Britain," said British Ambassador to Ukraine Judith Gough. "Chevening scholars are future leaders who will share the experiences of their countries and, upon returning home, enrich their countries with new knowledge and experience gained while studying in the United Kingdom. That is why Chevening is an important element in building ties between Britain and other countries."
This year, 14 scholars from Ukraine will go to study in the United Kingdom at higher education institutions such as the London School of Economics, Cambridge, King's College London, City University, Reading University, Queen Mary University London, and others. In total, over 1,500 Chevening scholars will receive education in the United Kingdom during the 2016/2017 academic year. This programme is the UK government's contribution to the process of shaping new global leaders.
This year's scholar, Alona Ihnatieva, who is going to the master's programme 'Methods of Social Research' at the London School of Economics, shares: 'Chevening allows me to connect with alumni of previous programmes. And in my opinion, the opportunity for such an exchange of experience is a great investment in my future. I can obtain a university education with many other programmes, but gaining access to such a network of contacts – people who have also received a good education and have work experience in relevant fields – is much more important.'

The Chevening scholarship is a global programme of the UK government, funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. The scholarship supports study at UK universities – predominantly one-year master's programmes – for individuals who demonstrate the potential to become future leaders, managers, and opinion-formers.
The Chevening scholarship was established in 1983, and its scholars represent over 160 countries and territories (excluding EU countries and the USA). Over 1,500 scholars will begin their studies in the 2016/2017 academic year. Currently, the Chevening alumni community numbers over 46,000 people.
The name 'Chevening' comes from Chevening House in Sevenoaks, Kent – the residence of the British Foreign Secretary.
