As in any country, in Montenegro there are places that are especially popular. Having visited these places, you can confidently say: "I got to know Montenegro!"

So, a list of tourist attractions claiming to be the 'calling card' of this wonderful country:

1. Tara Canyon – the deepest in Europe. In some places its depth reaches 1300 m. The length is 82 km. The canyon, protected by UNESCO World Heritage status, is part of the Durmitor National Park. Here also is the legendary Đurđevića Bridge, which connects the north and south of Montenegro.

2. Lake Skadar – the largest in the Balkans. Its area is almost 390 sq km. It is a habitat for great white pelicans and many other rare birds. On the coastline and numerous islands there are many ancient monasteries, castles and fortresses of cultural and historical interest.

3. Ostrog Monastery – one of the most majestic shrines. It was founded by Basil of Ostrog, whose relics are kept here, in the 17th century. The monastery is carved high in the mountains at an altitude of almost 900 m above sea level. When vacationing in Montenegro, it is better to visit this attraction on weekdays – on weekends it is too crowded.

4. Kotor – the most famous resort on the Adriatic coast. The main symbol of the city is the Cathedral of Saint Tryphon with frescoes and a sacristy by Venetian masters of the 14th century.

5. Budva – the main seaside resort center. Many museums and churches, a fortress and unique beaches – that's not all. Annually a great number of festivals and cultural events are held here.

6. Sveti Stefan. It is impossible to imagine tours to Montenegro without visiting this resort – a favorite vacation spot for celebrities of all kinds and royalty. Beaches with pink sand and picturesque churches with ancient icons, many cafes – what could be better for a romantic trip?

7. Mount Lovćen and the city of Cetinje – the cultural and historical center of Montenegro, a stronghold of the heroic struggle for freedom from the Turkish yoke. Numerous churches and the Cetinje Monastery, where the relics of John the Baptist and many other Christian shrines are kept.
