Of course, the main reason for the current crisis, according to experts, is the economic troubles in Western Europe - in Germany, Great Britain, France and other countries from which the majority of vacationers usually come to Spain. The war in Iraq also played a negative role - many Europeans prefer to stay at home during troubling times.
However, local authorities believe that if trips to Spain become cheaper, many Europeans who have planned this year to vacation at cheaper resorts in Southeastern Europe may reconsider their decision and go to Spain. In recent years, prices for tourist services in the country have been unjustifiably inflated, reports Deutsche Welle. Moreover, the authorities of the Balearic Islands also introduced a so-called ecological tax, which further increased the cost of holidays.
