What makes Barnaul attractive
The central square of this city is Sovetov Square. It houses the administration buildings, Altai State University, the main post office, and the city's main hotel – 'Tsentralnaya'. In addition, you can find the 'zero kilometer' marker, from which the distances of Altai Krai highways are measured.
On Oktyabrya Square there is a building with a beautiful tower crowned with a 15-meter spire and a clock on it. The building was erected in 1956 and is an architectural monument and a symbol of the city.
The hallmark of Barnaul is considered the bridge over the Ob River. It is very popular with guests and residents of the city. Thanks to a tradition that has just appeared in our country, all its railings are hung with 'love locks'. From this bridge you can see the large letters 'Barnaul' installed on the slope of Nagorny Park.
If you find yourself in Barnaul after a flight, be sure to walk along Demidov Square – the oldest square in the city. It is named after the founder of the city, Akinfiy Demidov, as evidenced by the stone 14-meter Demidov Pillar, which bears a bas-relief of A. Demidov. Over its existence, Demidov Square has changed several purposes. In the 19th century it was an administrative center, in the early 20th century football competitions were held there, and today the square has been remodeled into a cozy park.
In Barnaul there are many interesting museums. The largest and most famous is the Altai Regional Museum, founded in 1823 and considered the oldest museum in Siberia. In addition, tourists gladly visit the art museum, the museum of history of art, literature and culture of Altai, and other museums. Also in this Siberian city you can see many monuments, ranging from monuments to war participants, Pushkin, Lenin, and ending with such art objects as the iron apple tree, the monument to a lover, the swan Andryusha, and the monument to a virgin land worker.
