Christian pilgrims
Many today embrace the Christian religion, purchase plane tickets and, impressed by the Bible they have read, set off on a journey to holy places. The Apostle Paul in his time began his path as a preacher from Turkey, or more precisely from his hometown of Tarsus. Then his route passed through Ephesus, where today tourists can visit the ruins of the ancient city (3 km from the town of Selçuk). Next, following the preacher, head to Rhodes, located in Greece. Before Saint Paul came ashore in a small bay from which a white church was visible, he had visited the island of Lindos with stories about God's commandments.
It is recommended to continue the religious journey in Athens, where the apostle argued with Greek philosophers. A temple was built for Saint Paul in Thessaloniki, because it was he who told the local population about such a religion as Christianity. Next, the preacher's path was marked by a visit to Corinth. This fact is evidenced by a Byzantine basilica.
Buddhist pilgrims
Buddhist pilgrims begin their journey from Bodh Gaya. Tourists can see here the main shrine of the city – the Mahabodhi Temple. One of the temple's attractions is the Bodhi tree located behind it, where the Buddha himself spent a lot of time and ultimately attained enlightenment. Next, tourists usually visit the place where the great Buddha was born – the city of Lumbini.
Catholic pilgrims
The beginning of the Reformation, which occurred in the 16th century after the break between the Pope and Martin Luther, influenced at its time the fact that today Catholic pilgrimage begins in Wittenberg. Tourists can see with their own eyes the famous 95 Theses, nailed by Martin Luther to the doors of the local church.
The city of Eisenach is also of genuine interest. According to history, Luther was imprisoned within the walls of Wartburg Castle, where he first translated the Bible (the New Testament) into the official language of Germany. The works of Martin and his contemporaries can be read in the ancient city of Worms. Attractions that attract Protestants exist not only in the Black Forest, Zurich, but also in Geneva.
