Foreign students prefer to study in Czech Republic for free – only every seventh pays for their own education<\/em><\/p>
According to Radio Prague, a total of 308 thousand students study in Czech universities. Only every seventh foreigner pays for their own education. All others use the opportunity to receive free education from the state budget, as their studies are conducted in Czech.<\/p>
Foreign students studying at their own expense can bring significant income to the Czech economy. Currently, the budget receives 650 million crowns (almost 24 million euros) annually from the tuition of foreign students. That is probably why universities are actively seeking to attract students from China to study in the Czech Republic.<\/p>
Foreign students annually contribute to the Czech budget through purchases of goods and services, with taxes alone amounting to about one billion crowns. These data come from an analysis within the Kredo project, organized by the Ministry of Education and financed by European subsidies. Dozens of foreign students who studied at Czech universities, according to the analysis, could have spent a total of 4.5 billion crowns per year during their stay in the Czech Republic.<\/p>
In 2014, 35,663 foreign students were registered who wanted to obtain a diploma in the Czech Republic. Another 11,500 people belong to the category of contract students who spent about half a year in the republic as part of studies at private or public universities.<\/p>
