Foreign guests spend more in the Czech Republic than local tourists
As reported by Vinegret.cz, in 2016, a total of 231,500 residents of the republic worked in the country's tourism business. It accounted for 2.9% of the Czech GDP. These are the most recent official data available. 4.4% of all employed residents of the Czech Republic were involved in the tourism sector. Thus, every 23rd Czech worked in tourism.
"In 2016, the Czech Republic was visited by 32.5 million foreigners. Tourists who stayed overnight spent more – an average of 2,100 crowns per day. However, it should not be forgotten that 60% of all foreign tourists are travelers who came to the Czech Republic for just one day. They make a significant contribution to total revenues," the ČSÚ report says.
Travelers most willingly spent on souvenirs, jewelry, clothing, and other items. Next came spending on transportation, food, and accommodation.
