Migration-driven population growth in Czechia exceeded natural increase tenfold
As Vinegret.cz notes, such positive statistics were achieved mainly due to migration policy, but natural increase also contributed.
Last year, 45,957 people arrived in Czechia from abroad, while 17,684 residents left the country. Thus, the net external migration balance was positive and amounted to 28,273 people.
Among the newly arrived foreigners, the largest numbers were citizens of Ukraine (10,300 people), Slovakia (6,300), Russia (2,900), and Vietnam (2,200).
Last year, 114,405 babies were born in the republic. This is the highest result in the last seven years. Of the total number of newborns, almost half (56,091) were born out of wedlock. The number of deceased residents was 111,443, which is the highest result in the last twenty years.
Thus, the natural population increase was only 2,962 people. The average age of the country's residents increased from 40 to 40.2 years.
As for marriages, their popularity in Czechia reached a nine-year high. Last year, 52,567 couples officially formalized their relationships (1,799 more compared to 2016). Grooms were most often 30 years old, brides 27 years old.
The number of divorces in the country was 25,755, which is 759 more than a year earlier.
