This initiative applies only to those labor migrants who arrived in the Czech Republic for work from non-EU countries. This primarily concerns citizens of Vietnam and Mongolia. Interior Minister Ivan Langer stated that no more than two million euros in total will be spent on this program. In his opinion, it is much cheaper for the state to pay for the guest workers' return home than to deport them.
The Czech government believes that about two thousand labor migrants will leave the country in the near future under this program. In total, according to forecasts, about 12,000 guest workers could lose their jobs in the Czech Republic in the first quarter of 2009.
As reported by Lenta.ru, in December 2008, 285,000 labor migrants were registered in the Czech Republic, including those from European Union countries.
