Drivers in the Czech Republic will be required to let ambulances pass according to a new standard
The document was developed by the Ministry of Transport of the Czech Republic and concerns three-lane roads. The current rule states that in case of a traffic jam or slow-moving traffic, drivers must create a corridor for a vehicle with emergency signals on. To do this, cars from the left and middle lanes must move to the left, and from the right lane to the right.
According to Vinegret.cz, under the new rule, only cars from the left lane will move to the left, and the rest to the right (as shown in the picture).
A similar rule currently exists in Hungary, Germany, Austria, and will soon take effect in Slovakia. The Czech Ministry of Transport decided that it would be reasonable to switch to a common standard with neighboring countries to avoid confusion during foreign trips.
For the innovation to take effect, it must now be approved by the Senate and the President. If this happens soon, the new rule will take effect in the autumn of this year. This will be preceded by a large-scale information campaign.
