German President believes Germany has not yet exhausted all its possibilities for receiving asylum seekers
German President Joachim Gauck is not staying away from this problem. Speaking live on the television program "Bericht aus Berlin" on ARD, he said: "Germany has not yet exhausted all its possibilities for receiving refugees from crisis countries. There are such dire situations that are well known to Germans from the post-war period, when, being almost at the limit of possibilities, you just have to say to yourself: 'Let's do it.' Yes, Germany is not able to accept all refugees who would like to come to us. And there are those who fear immigration. But the country has become more mature. Overall, I am confident that Germany will find a way to respond to this challenge. With our European neighbors, we are thinking about who and what else should be done in this direction."
Vice President of the Bundestag, member of the Green Party and former President of the Synod of the Evangelical Church in Germany, Katrin Göring-Eckardt, developing Gauck's thesis, insists on placing reception centers for refugees not in industrial urban zones, as is being proposed, but specifically in residential areas where local infrastructure already exists. Furthermore, Göring-Eckardt demands that the federal government urgently transfer unused military barracks from the federal reserve to local authorities for conversion into reception centers.
In the very near future, Bundestag deputies will begin discussing the placement of reception centers for asylum seekers in industrial zones of cities. According to current building codes and regulations, residential buildings cannot be located in industrial zones, but due to the sharp increase in the flow of refugees to Germany in recent months, it is proposed to revise the construction legislation in this part.
