Airfares Rise

The reason for the increase was another surge in oil prices. This is already the third increase in the surcharge for British Airways this year. A number of other airlines are also reviewing their fuel surcharges upward these days.

Also on November 15, Air France and KLM increased the fuel surcharge on all their flights. Both airlines raised the fee by €2 per flight segment on European routes and €10 on long-haul routes. As a result, Air France’s surcharge reached €12 on domestic flights, €16 on European flights, and €73 on long-haul flights. KLM’s surcharge now stands at €27 on European routes and €80 on long-haul routes. The airlines promise to reverse the increase if the oil price stabilizes below $80 per barrel. If the oil price falls only below $85, the companies will reduce the increase by half.

Starting from the new year, the airport fee at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv will double – from $13 to $26. The motivation for such a radical increase is the strengthening of security measures. Earlier, it was planned to raise the fee by $7 (to $20). The Tel Aviv airport fee is currently one of the smallest among airports of a similar level. Its amount had not changed for more than 13 years – since April 1994. // Travel.ru
