“This is an unprecedented number in the history of aviation,” says a communiqué issued by the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which unites 240 airlines. As noted by IATA official representative Anthony Concil, the list includes companies from practically all regions of the planet: Asia, Africa, America and Europe.
The main reason for the suspension of operations and bankruptcies, according to him, “is a sharp – almost double – increase in global fuel prices over the past year.” According to IATA, reports ITAR-TASS, the increase in oil prices has led to the fact that in airline budgets, spending on kerosene increased over the year from 13% to 35% of total operating expenses.
