Yaroslavl Prepares for Its Anniversary

The ancient Russian city is preparing for its 1000th anniversary

According to Yaroslavl news, it is planned to complete the construction of one of the most modern hotels, SK-Royal, exactly by the city's anniversary. The hotel will be located in the old part of the city, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of even more potential clients. According to plans, the SK-Royal hotel will be able to accommodate about 200 guests at a time, and its construction will cost 1.3 billion rubles.

For professional support of excursion groups planning to visit Yaroslavl during the anniversary events, the regional tourism committee is preparing highly qualified guides. As told by Galina Krokhmal, chairperson of the tourism committee of the department of industry, entrepreneurship, consumer market and tourism of the Yaroslavl region government, special advanced training courses for guides are planned, with 150 thousand rubles allocated for their conduct.

The first mentions of Yaroslavl in chronicles date back to the beginning of the 11th century. The 17th century is called the 'golden' in the history of Yaroslavl – it becomes the second largest city in Russia after Moscow. It was during those times that Yaroslavl craftsmen built the now world-famous churches – the Church of Elijah the Prophet, the ensemble in Korovniki, the Church of John the Baptist in Tolchkovo with their unique frescoes. In 1790, a scroll of 'The Tale of Igor's Campaign' was found in the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in Yaroslavl. Therefore, it is not surprising that the only museum in the world dedicated to a single literary work was opened in this beautiful city.
