The army may be deployed to guard borders against illegal migrants
Police President Tomáš Tuhý reported a 40% increase in the flow of illegal migrants, but there is no reason yet to raise security measures to the second level. As was stated during the meeting of the State Security Council, increased border protection can be expected when the number of detentions rises significantly.
“The Prime Minister gave a clear order that if the number of detentions increases by 100%, from 15 to 30 cases, it will be time to move to the second level of security measures. The police will be ready for that,” said Interior Minister Milan Chovanec after the Security Council meeting.
“The second level of control does not yet involve the deployment of the army. Police units will be mobilized, and the Customs Administration and Prison Service may also be brought in. I do not anticipate, and there is currently no need for, the deployment of the army to guard the country's borders,” said Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka.
According to Radio Prague, members of the Czech Security Council decided to provide assistance to Hungary, where the influx of migrants is greater than in the Czech Republic. To accommodate refugees, the Czech side will send 50 tents to Hungary.
