Other sectors will be allowed to submit only individual applications, limiting the number of applications to 25 at a time. Currently, about 70% of all work permits are issued to construction and maintenance companies, and some permits are illegally sold to recruiting firms abroad.
The ministry also decided to exempt workers in the fishing industry and private-sector truck drivers from the mandatory requirement of having completed secondary education or its equivalent when being hired. It is also planned to include construction workers in this group, reports IS Russkie Emiraty.
The new rule applies only to newly arriving workers. The secondary education certificate must be certified by the UAE Ministry of Education. The ministry's decision is aimed at limiting the entry of unskilled labour into the country and curbing the practice of reselling visas to third parties.
