However, residents of the American city of Wausau (Wisconsin) believe that they were the least lucky. After all, they were deprived of the opportunity to legally play snowball fights! According to "Russkaya Germaniya", the corresponding law, which prohibits throwing "an arrow, stone, snowball, or other projectile" at another person in public places within city limits, came into force back in 1962.
Since then, every year with the arrival of snow, residents have protested this ban, which was widely ridiculed in the local press. One publication even called Wausau "the worst city in America." The discontent of the city's residents is quite understandable, because for a forbidden snowball fight they faced a fine of $114.
To the delight of many city residents, on the eve of the new year 2020, authorities decided to lift the ban on snowballs by removing the term "snowball" from the definition of the law. American media, including The New York Times, wrote about the long-awaited "relaxation."
The deputy police chief of the city even recorded a video message in which he said that no one would be punished for playing snowball fights anymore – and threw the first snowball at his colleague.
