Standard clothing sizes do not correspond to figures
Recently, large American companies producing mass-market clothing decided to finally find out whom they are clothing. At their request, a special study of potential customers' figures called "Measure America" was conducted. Using special electronic scanners, measurements were taken of 10,000 Americans of both sexes in 13 U.S. cities. The results of this control measurement clearly demonstrated that the standard figure, both female and male, is becoming rarer and rarer - it is time to create reserves and national parks for owners of ideal forms.
The BBC cites some discouraging results of this study. First, the classic ladies' size 8 (89 cm bust, 69 waist, and 95 hips) does not fit even today's female students, whose figures are not yet spoiled by age-related changes. At age 18-25, the average young American lady measures 97-81-104. It should be noted that the bust and hips have become much fuller than in the last century, but the waist circumference has also increased by 17%. As they get older, American women expand a bit more, with dark-skinned matrons outpacing their pale-faced peers. By age 40, the average white lady has grown to 104-86-109, while a black woman has grown to 109-94-117. It also turned out that the hips of American beauties now gain weight faster than the rest of the body: two-thirds of respondents, or rather measured individuals, have a pear-like figure. It is very difficult to fit such a customer in clothing cut to one of the standard sizes: the current scale assumes that the client's hip circumference exceeds the chest circumference by only a couple of inches.
Gentlemen made in USA also did not please the study's customers: most members of the stronger sex cannot boast the figure of Tarzan or Apollo. Currently, youth clothing manufacturers use the old standard, which assumes that young men aged 18 to 25 have average parameters of 102-86-102. However, this is no longer the case: results of measuring young Americans show that one should now proceed from the size 104-89-104. With age, men mature, grow bellies, and gain weight considerably. Moreover, here, on the contrary, white men lead: by age 40, the chest volume of an average gentleman of Anglo-Saxon appearance reaches 112 cm, and the waist 97, while the comparable measurements for black Americans are an inch less - 109 and 94 cm.
But the most curious thing is that America's excess weight worries primarily nutritionists and doctors. The U.S. residents themselves do not have complexes about it. According to the BBC, only 10% of men and 20% of women consider themselves 'a bit overweight,' while more than half of men and almost 40% of women believe they fit within the norm. Apparently, it will no longer be possible to return Americans to the slim standards of the past century, and clothing manufacturers will still have to review the standard size scale. Some airlines and movie theaters have already had to do this, where owners, seeking to ensure customer comfort, made seats wider. Americans no longer fit in the previous seating. And the latest 'measurement of America' may also affect its armed forces: among the sponsors of the study were the U.S. Army and Navy. After all, it is those same average overweight citizens who come into military service and need to be issued standard uniforms. It is quite possible that after analyzing this nationwide taking of measurements, the armed forces of the last superpower will begin ordering cotton and dress trousers in new sizes - for hefty soldiers and pear-shaped female officers.
• It should be noted that recently, people concerned about their figure have finally had the opportunity to forget their problems. They are helped to stay in shape and look beautiful by shapewear, which is offered by specialized stores. For example, Secret-t.ru presents many fashionable collections of high-quality underwear for women, which will allow them to always look attractive.
