7 tips for a safe move

It is better to entrust the safety of your property during a move to professionals.

In large cities, this problem is more acute. Ordering dinner at a restaurant or bowling for an evening is much easier than finding qualified transportation or moving specialists. Many firms providing such services carry out loading and unloading on their own, while most are only engaged in transportation. Therefore, you have to hire movers separately, through newspaper ads, which increases the likelihood of their possible dishonesty, lack of experience or qualifications.

When contacting a specialized agency, or a so-called moving company that deals specifically with apartment and office relocations, you will feel more confident because such firms employ verified specialists ready for any non-standard situations. Nevertheless, you alone know all the nuances and features of your transported property, so it is necessary to control the moving process at all its stages.

1. First of all, try to carefully pack all fragile and breakable items; place boxes with them separately to avoid damage; loading should be done separately from other items.

2. To prevent dust from getting on upholstered furniture during transportation and loading operations, wrap it in several layers of plastic wrap. For ease of transportation and loading, it is advisable to disassemble cabinets, tables, and other case furniture into parts (if possible, of course); mirrors and glass should be padded with paper or blankets and tightly wrapped with tape.

3. It is advisable to number all boxes, bags, and case furniture elements to prevent possible loss.

4. Transportation of household appliances: gas stoves, washing machines, refrigerators, etc. must be carried out vertically to avoid breakage. Experienced movers know all these nuances of moving, but since the property is yours, control on your part is essential.

5. Also pay special attention to the transportation of televisions and computers, which are best packed in their original boxes with all layers of foam. These items should not come into contact with hard surfaces, and placing other boxes on top of them is not recommended.

6. All boxes, furniture, and household appliances must be securely fastened in the truck body with special straps or ropes. To control the correctness of transportation and, accordingly, unloading, carrying in, and arrangement of things, it is best to accompany the cargo to its destination. If this is not possible, the driver of the truck should be given exact coordinates of the delivery location: district, street, house number, entrance; explain the route and access features.

7. First, large-sized items (appliances and furniture) should be brought into the apartment, since rearranging them yourself later will be very difficult and inconvenient. Therefore, the arrangement of furniture in the rooms must be thought out in advance to save time on the move itself and unpacking things.
